2026 F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix - Baku weather forecast

F1 heads to the shores of the Caspian Sea for this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku - and the drivers are set to be treated with favourable conditions.

Current forecasts indicate a rain-free weekend in Baku, where the race will take place on Saturday instead of Sunday to avoid a clash with the Azeri Day of Remembrance, which is annually held on September 27th.

As of Tuesday, September 22nd, there is a significant rain cell moving eastwards towards Baku from across Turkey, but as the week progresses and the cell runs into the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia and moves across Armenia and into Azerbaijan, it is expected to dissipate and not affect the F1 weekend.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-to-high 20 degree Celsius region.

Crucially for overtaking, the wind direction is largely set to favour the drivers for the grand prix, due to start at 15:00 local time.

The long main straight in Baku runs roughly west to east, with the short run between Turns 1 and 2 being directly north.

It means drivers will be without a headwind for qualifying along the main straight, but will be subject to a crosswind from left to right; the direction is expected to change to come from the north-east on race day.

This would translate into a direct headwind along the main straight and into Turn 1, ideal for overtaking and slipstreaming.
