BWT Alpine Formula One Team today announces that Mike Elliott is joining the team as Chief Technical Officer. Elliott joins the team to lead and oversee the technical and engineering functions at the team's factory at Enstone.
Alpine has announced the signing of former Mercedes technical director Mike Elliott.
Elliott, who left Mercedes after a spell as chief technical officer in 2023, returns to Enstone to join Alpine as chief technical officer, having previously worked with what was then Renault and Lotus between 2008 and 2012.
He served as principal aerodynamicist, having joined from McLaren, where he was an aerodynamic team leader.
In 2012, Elliott moved to Mercedes to become head of aerodynamics, and became technology director in 2017.
The 52-year-old then became technical director in 2021 before re-swapping roles with James Allison in 2023 to become chief technical officer before leaving Mercedes later in the year.
Elliott has won eight constructors' and 8 drivers' titles during his time in F1, and worked with the likes of world champions Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, and Nico Rosberg.
His arrival is the latest signing by Alpine as it looks to strengthen its technical capabilities and continue to close the gap to the top four teams.
After the Spanish Grand Prix, Alpine is sixth in the constructors' on 68 points, nine behind Racing Bulls in fifth, with Pierre Gasly also recently taking the first pole position for the team at the Italian Grand Prix.
