Arvid Lindblad launches staunch defence after Liam Lawson collision

Arvid Lindblad has insisted his coming together with team-mate Liam Lawson at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was not intentional.

At a safety car restart on lap 37 of the race in Baku, chaos unfolded at the opening corners as two separate incidents occurred.

One of those involved Lindblad and Lawson, with the latter sent into a spin by his team-mate and demoted down the field.

The stewards opted to take no further action after reviewing the collision, as Lindblad explained that he was caught out by an unexpected change of direction from Esteban Ocon.

"I said I'm sorry on the radio, in the end, it's not intentional," Lindblad told media including RacingNews365.

"If you watch the video back, you can see there's nothing intentional about what I do.

"The stewards said no further action, which obviously I'm happy about.

"In the end, I don't know what you want me to do. We're all on the limit, we all brake very late, and the guy in front of me moves in the last second...

"That's racing, you saw it happen, there were many incidents, so there was nothing I could do."

Lindblad expecting to be 'told off' by Racing Bulls

Lindblad went on to score seventh place at the chequered flag after making two late-race overtakes on the Haas drivers.

This included coming out on top in a drag race to the line with Ocon, crossing the line 0.030s ahead of the Haas driver.

Despite the strong result, Lindblad is expecting that he will get some form of a slap on the wrist from his team.

"They saw that I immediately apologised and they said 'We can see that there's not much you could have done'," he said.

"Maybe I'll get a little bit told off but there's nothing intentional.

"They know that there's no point attacking me because it's not what I wanted."
