Fernando Alonso reiterates Honda trust desipte 2026 pain

Fernando Alonso has insisted he holds complete trust in Honda's F1 project despite a shaky return to F1.

Honda struck up a power unit partnership with Aston Martin this year as fresh technical regulations came into play.

However, it has proven to be a challenging start to the team's new era, with both Aston Martin and Honda facing hurdles of their own.

Honda officially departed F1 at the end of the 2021 campaign after securing a world championship in partnership with Red Bull - and Alonso insisted it has all the infrastructure to do so again.

“Yes, 100%. I think it's a huge commitment from Honda,” Alonso told media including RacingNews365.

“You know, the facilities we have in Japan are one of the best.

“I think the personnel and the management of the power unit now has been reinforced as Honda said, and a lot of people that were in the previous project, they are in again on this one.

“So, I think I have no doubts, and I trust Honda 100%.”

Alonso sets timeline for Honda recovery hope

Aston Martin has scored just three points so far this year, and more often than not, has been languishing towards the bottom of the timesheet.

Alonso has not yet indicated if he will stick around in F1 next year, insisting his decision will rest on the enjoyment of the regulations, rather than car performance.

But at 45 years of age, Alonso likely does not have many years left on the grid, and is hopeful he can get back into a successful car before walking away from the sport.

“We just need to shortcut somehow that process,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we started on the wrong foot, and we started with with these set of regulations not at the level that we wanted, but I have no doubts that they will get there.

“And, as I said many times, you know, we don't want to wait five years like they did last time, or six years.

“We want to do it in two years or three years maximum.”
