Formula E unveil pre-season plan for 'fastest-ever' new car

Formula E's new Gen4 machine will make its official pre-season testing debut later this year.

Formula E pre-season testing with the 'fastest-ever' Gen4 car will take place at the Jarama circuit in Madrid in November, it has been announced.

The new machine - driven by David Coulthard at the recent Monaco E-Prix - will hit the track near the Spanish capital between November 16th and November 20th ahead of the 2026/27 season, the 13th season in the championship's history.

The radical new Gen4 machine is a major step forward for the championship, with the all-drive car capable of producing 600kw of power when in attack mode.

Speeds exceeding 335kph - 208mph - are possible, with a 0-200kph (124mph) time of just 4.4 seconds.

FE will return to Madrid following the circuit hosting round six of the current season in March, with this race being won by Antonio Felix da Costa.

"We are delighted that the iconic Circuito de Madrid Jarama will play host to such a
significant milestone in Formula E history," said chief championship officer, Alberto Longo.

"Madrid has already proven to be an incredible venue for our championship, and there is no better place to debut the new Gen4 car ahead of the new season than at a venue that blends racing heritage with a forward-thinking vision.

"This is more than just a test; it is the first time the world will see all our drivers, teams, and manufacturers showcase their new Gen4 machinery - the most powerful and technologically advanced electric race car ever built, ahead of its racing debut.

The location of the first race weekend of the new Gen4 Formula E car will be announced on June 23rd, when the full 2026/27 season calendar is confirmed.
