Liam Lawson reveals Racing Bulls focus after 'very lucky' Baku

Liam Lawson feels there is one key area of focus for Racing Bulls ahead of the upcoming grands prix in Malaysia and Singapore.

The team struggled over the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, yet still managed to collect six points from Arvid Lindblad's seventh-place finish at the Baku City Circuit.

That was fortunate as Lindblad crashed into Lawson at the first of two safety car restarts, as a consequence of Franco Colapinto taking out Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly and McLaren's Isack Hadjar into Turn 1 ahead of him.

Although Lindblad apologised, Lawson was still left puzzled by his team-mate's approach into the first corner, suggesting he has "been over aggressive at points this year".

Fundamentally, however, Lawson knows he and the team cannot be found as badly wanting again in the next two races in Malaysia and Singapore, as they were in Azerbaijan

"It was a tough weekend overall for the team," said Lawson, speaking to the media, including RacingNews365. "We've struggled.

"If everything were normal, we wouldn't have scored. It was a very standard race. We didn't have the speed of Alpine, so we just got very lucky."

As to where the team predominantly struggled, he added: "With pace all weekend,.

"So that’s something we’ll work on over the rest of the triple-header."

Racing Bulls capitalised on 'opportunities'

Team principal Alan Permane concurred with Lawson that after what was "quite a race", Racing Bulls were "fortunate" to come away with any points

"We were able to capitalise on the opportunities that presented themselves throughout the race, and to come away with six points for the team is a really positive outcome from a challenging weekend,": said Permane.

"We had a tougher-than-usual weekend in terms of performance, but the cars certainly performed better [in the race] than they did across the rest of the weekend."

Drawing the positives from the race ahead of the next event in Malaysia, Permane said: "It gives us another set of data to analyse and learn from as we look to understand where we can improve."
