Liam Lawson risks punishment with post-race Austrian GP investigation

Liam Lawson could be penalised by the stewards following the Austrian Grand Prix.

Liam Lawson will be investigated by the stewards after the Austrian Grand Prix for failing to follow the race director's instructions.

Specifically, the Racing Bulls driver has allegedly committed a practice start infringement at the Red Bull Ring, but he will not be summoned until after the 71-lap race in Spielberg.

The New Zealander becomes just the second F1 driver to be investigated this weekend, in an abnormally quiet event for the officials.

During qualifying, Lawson's former team-mate Isack Hadjar was called before the FIA for exceeding the time limit between safety car lines, for which he received a warning.

It is not immediately clear what the 24-year-old's particular infraction is, but it can be assumed that his practice start was not conducted in the correct, designated place before his laps to the grid, where he starts from ninth.
