Williams pain continues as Carlos Sainz suffers dramatic DNF

Carlos Sainz became the third driver to retire from the Austrian Grand Prix.

Carlos Sainz's Austrian Grand Prix came to a painful end as he was forced to retire from the race.

Williams has endured a tough weekend in Spielberg and has not been a contender for the top 10 all weekend.

However, its chances of a strong result shrank further when Sainz's car suffered a dramatic shutdown as he exited the final corner.

It forced the Spaniard to pull to the side of the track, with race control then calling a virtual safety car to clear the stricken FW48.

Williams has communicated that the cause of the retirement was a suspected electrical issue.

It is the first non-finish of the season for Sainz, who is hopeful that Williams' upgrades planned for next week at Silverstone will lift it forward.
